On Friday December 16 2011 the whole 4th grade went to the Nutcracker Ballet and Cicis Pizza. At first the dancers looked like they were at a tea party. After that the 4th grade went to Cicis Pizza there was a really LONG buffet there also was a really long line of people that went all the way out of the building. We could have as much as we wanted . It was so tasty !! We ate for about 30 minuets after that we came back and watched a movie, we watched the Muppet's Christmas Carol. Then we went home.

Computer Lab

Every Tuesday and Thursday we have computer lab.There are 63 lessons on learing.com.If you are finshed you get to play funbrain! Now we are doing nine leasons.The nine leasons are just for review.If we need help Mrs.Vermillion walks around the computer room to helps us.

Mrs.Bohling is really ready for the holidays. She is taking matters in to her own hands by stealing one of Santa's little elves. He is here to the rescue. He is going to help her organize all her problems. He is in 7th grade. Mrs.Bohling says.."I think he is a great influence to the class". He really enjoys the little kids.(Mrs.V's class.) He was welcome back to 4th grade on Monday November 21st 2011. He himself has a assistant of his oneself. But sadly he was to shy to see me. This is him!

4th grade doors are the BOMB!!!We had a door dectorating contest for "Red Ribbon Week",and it was so fun.Mrs.B's class won, no big deal,they chose to do aliens.We,Mrs.A's class,chose to do a ribbon made out of our pictures and words that read "It's Up To Me Too Be Drug Free!!!" Mrs V's class had stripes and ribbons-CUTE!!!! Even though only one class won, it was still a BLAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Red Ribbon week

Red Ribbon week was to show that Halstead Middle school is drug free. The older kids put signs on the walls and had activities for the kids to do. The kids had fun dressing up for red ribbon week. We all got pencils and bracelets. All the classes got to decorate their doors. I think all the kids had fun.

Fun with rats

The teachers let me come in at recess and play with the rats. The rats were not as I thought they would be. They were fuzzy,soft,cute,and funny. My partner and I loved the rats. They were so fun we just loved them. My favorite ,Cream, was tan I liked Cookie to. That is my story about the rats.

Our classroom has some class pets. We have a hippo named hepta a hexbug named hexy and a dog named pent . They are so cute. Hexy lives in a hexagon this is how we remember hexagons. How we remember hepta is that we remember that a hippo weigh seven tons. How you remember pent is that pent has a dog house in the shape of a pentagon.

Kids Read All The Way To Hall Of Fame!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ms. Bohling a 4th grade teacher at Halstead Middle School came up with an amazing idea to get kids motivated about reading. It's HALL OF FAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kids have to read at least 2 books each 9 weeks. There are many levels to hall of fame. The first level is college you have to read 2 books in this level for the first 9 weeks. You have a new level every 9 weeks. There are 2 extra levels veteran and hall of fame. If you finish all the levels you get a prize.

Anti Bully Awareness Week

It is Anti Bully Awareness Week at Halstead Middle School and the moto is be a buddy not a bully.The school counselor is trying to end bullying at our school and we all try to help her.There are certain stuff you do, they put up posters that tell you what you do each day of the week.She comes in to each classroom and shows you different types of bullying like cyber bullying.By the end of the week we should have bullying gone.

If you read two books and passed college level you got to go to camp read. Camp read is where you got to bring a book, snack, flashlight, pillow and blanket. You could share books and read with a friend. The teacher had lots of Halloween books.
I thouht it was relaxing.

My rock stars have been at it again. This time each class preformed a different video related to data landmarks. These days are oh so fun! I love to see that energy! :)

Fun at the state fair!

What a GREAT day! It is always so much fun to get out of the classroom and experience the world first hand. There is so much to learn at the fair. When we went in the sign said, "Kansas's largest outdoor classroom". I would have to agree with that 100%. So much to see and do.

Each group was able to choose what to see and do. I think they all made the most of their day!

I also want to say THANK YOU to all of our volunteers. We would not have been able to go without you.

Circle Constructions

4th graders have been learning about the properties of a circle through the use of compasses. We made three different circle constructions.

First, we made a square inscribed in a circle. You make a circle and fold it in quarters. Next, connect the fold lines to make a square. And by the way, does anyone know how you could use a compass to check to see if all 4 sides of a square in congruent?

Dart boards are a great way to practice concentric circles (Circles that share the same mid point)

Congruent intersecting circles can be lots of fun. It was just hard to remember not to change the size of our compass. We also found out that cutting circles neatly is REALLY hard work :)

Sorry for the delay in posting these videos. I was having some issues with the size of the files. Thanks Anne Roach for your help!!

Who knew learning about quadrilaterals could be so silly?! Each class was divided into groups and assigned a shape. They were in charge of creating their own movements to help others remember the properties of that shape. They also were asked to come up with a "freestyle" dance move that some how incorporated the number four to show that quadrilaterals always have four sides. The video's are a little blurry but look closly for the fours. It was so much fun to see the kids come out of their shell. It was obvious they felt safe and comfortable with each other. I don't know who had more fun...them or me.

Welcome to our blog! This is a place for all of you to find out what is going on in our classroom. I plan to update it off and on, but mostly it will be the responsibility of the students. We will have a blog editor from each class that will be responsible for taking pictures and writing the post. They are allowed to choose anything that we have been doing here at school that they would like to share about. I am excited to see what they have in store for us.
